A continuing series of books prepared by the Federal Research Division of the Library of Congress under the Country Studies/Area Handbook Program sponsored by the Department of the Army. This online series presently contains studies of 91 countries.

Easy Map

Allows searching by street name for the whole of England, Scotland and Wales. Extensive features. Requires Flash plug-in. Where multiple results are retrieved Netscape has difficulty in handling this.

Multimap's UK map search

Covers the whole of mainland Britain. Can be searched by address, by postcode, by place name. Map scales zoom from 1:4,000,000 to 1:10,000. Produces excellent large maps, travel directions, an interactive tube map for London and aerial photographs of a number of major cities including Birmingham and London.

Streetmap

Has maps and aerial photos - handles multiple hits on street names very well

Ordnance Survey

Britain's national mapping agency. The best place to find a diverse range of mapping products - including free downloadable outline maps of the UK, free downloadable maps of Great Britain, guides to map scales and symbols and National Grid references together with information about OS maps. Initially slow to download.
